Kayak fishing is probably one of the fastest growing recreational water sports in KZN . The original fishing ski was built by Fred Crocker in the mid 50,s and was known as the “Crocker ski “ .The Crocker ski was a peculiar , flat bottomed banana shaped contraption supported by a meranti beam frame which was covered in canvas & coated with an epoxy paint to make it watertight . Later anglers started making them out of masonite which then followed by marine ply & then finally fiberglass . Although items such as hatches , rod holders and transoms were added the original shape has never really changed .
